Rape survivor calls for quicker prosecution against perpetrators

Children from the Onkabetse Care Centre in Vosloorus gathered outside the Pretoria Magistrate's Court.

JOHANNESBURG – Hundreds of people protested outside the Pretoria Magistrate Court on Tuesday, as Nicholas Ninow, the man accused of raping a seven-year-old little girl in a restaurant bathroom made a brief appearance.

The protestors included children and staff from the Onkabetse Care Centre in Vosloorus.

Among those the centre cares for are young rape survivors. 

Mpho Mazamane, a rape and abuse survivor, established the organisation.

She has called for drastic changes to the justice and legal system, which will tighten the screws on preparatory and speed up prosecution.
