Rescue mission on for 62 seafarers, including 47 South Africans

Efforts to rescue 62 seafarers, including 47 South Africans, stranded on Gough Island is underway. They were aboard the research vessel, Geo Searcher, when it struck a rock and began sinking. JOHANNESBURG - Efforts to rescue 62 seafarers, including 47 South Africans, stranded on Gough Island is underway.

They were aboard the research vessel, Geo Searcher, when it struck a rock and began sinking.

The researchers abandoned the ship and made it to the shore of the South Atlantic island.

They managed to reach South Africa's research station, where they are awaiting rescue.

The SA AGULHAS 2 has been dispatched and is expected to arrive in 3 days.
