Rhino poachers are upping their game, now posing as tourists to enter protected areas.
JOHANNESBURG - Rhino poachers are upping their game, now posing as tourists to enter protected areas.
That's according to officials from the Kruger National Park.
There have already been 70 incursions into the park this year, with 13 arrests made.
The park has become an international icon of conservation and tourism.
But poachers are now using this to their advantage.
"We saw a strategy of people coming in as tourists, but our intelligence helped us combat that," said KNP spokesperson Ike Phaahla.
The park is hardest-hit when rhinos are killed with their young.
