JOHANNESBURG - Angry residents in Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal have brought the CBD to a standstill.

They've blockaded a road leading into the town with trucks and burning tyres.

Tensions first began a few weeks ago, when residents and taxi operators assaulted whoonga users, accusing them of petty crimes.

Since then, trucks drivers have joined the protests, complaining about the employment of foreigners.

Some are accusing the foreigners of peddling drugs in the area.

Trucks have blocked the N7 highway in the Western Cape and it's affecting traffic flow in the area.
