JOHANNESBURG - Law enforcement agencies have been compromised, according to former Ipid head, Robert McBride.
He delivered explosive testimony at the state capture inquiry on Thursday.
McBride said there were concerted efforts to remove leaders of these institutions by any means necessary.
McBride said of the effort to weaken Ipid.
“It's to cover up crimes that have been committed before and crimes that were planned to take place in the future [...] I was not the only person who has come to that conclusion.”
Advocate Paul Pretorius, an evidence leader at the inquiry said this is why it is necessary for the commission to be here in the first place.
“If that system and all its resources and complexity were operating properly we wouldn't be here and that's the question that we would address whether that's the valid statement to make in due course.”
