Prosecutors say he must face more than the minimum prescribed penalty.

He'll be sentenced next week but his mother asked for leniency.

Advocate Louis van Niekerk, the state prosecutor said, "Susan's wounds indicated a vicious attack on her.

"Jason Rohde acted callous and uncaring towards her, very cruel, totally disregarding her as a person, as a wife, as a mother of her daughters. It was ruthless and basically cold-blooded."

Rohde's lawyer argued there was a perfect storm on the day of the murder which led to a crime of passion.

Judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe pointed out that Rohde failed to seek medical attention for his wife after the incident.

The judge described, "he left her to die... The way Mrs Rohde was found naked by Mr Daniels, he showed no empathy or respect for her as a human being."

The State says a sentence of between 18 and 20 years is appropriate.
