SA National AIDS Council speaks on the impact of TB

JOHANNESBURG - The South African National Aids Council says TB remains the main killer in HIV patients.

It has secured a Global Fund grant of nearly R9-billion over the next three years to continue the fight against the two diseases.

Sanac CEO Dr Thembisile Xulu said: "It's not just inability to access health service because clinics are closed but the roads are not accessible.

"The TB programme took a set back and it continues to be the number one cause of mortality in HIV patients hence if you look at the support from the Global Fund and the Department of Health we have seen a significant investment to try and make sure we don't lose the gains that we have had in terms of our TB and HIV programmes."
