SA reports 1,731 new COVID-19 cases, 40 more deaths

JOHANNESBURG - The health department reported 1,731 new coronavirus cases on Saturday.

This brings the total number to 735,906.

It said 40 more people have died from the virus, bringing the death toll to 19,789.

"Of the 40 deaths reported [Saturday], 11 were reported to have occurred in the past 24 to 48 hours," the department said in a statement.

The recovery rate stands at 92 percent, with over 678,000 recoveries recorded.

The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 4,963,174 with 22,455 new tests conducted since the last report.
