Teams from Wits and Stellenbosch University, as well as the University of the Western Cape worked on the project.

The scientists reconfigured their biosafety Level 3 labs from dealing with infectious bacteria to working with this new, highly infectious virus.

This achievement is also expected to help with the development of new COVID-19 test kits.
