SA unemployment rate decreases

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's unemployment rate decreased slightly to 27,1 percent at the end of the fourth quarter of 2018, Stats SA announced on Tuesday morning. 

The unemployment rate at the end of the third quarter of 2018 was 27.5 percent, meaning the rate has decreased by 0.4 of a percentage point.

Figures released by Stats SA show that 16,5-million people were employed in the last quarter of 2018, up by 300 000 when compared with 2017.

Youth unemployment, on the other hand, increased by 1,9 of a percentage point to 54,7 percent in quarter 4 of 2018.
