SABC staff to picket over retrenchments

JOHANNESBURG - SABC staff will be picketing on Friday against looming retrenchments at the public broadcaster.

Unions, the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have criticised the retrenchments.

They say not enough consultation has taken place and claim the broadcaster did not follow the correct procedure. 

Around a thousand jobs are on the line, which the SABC has described as a cost-saving measure.
