Senekal murder case: Tensions high outside court

SENEKAL - There's a standoff between the EFF and farmers outside the Senekal Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Two suspects, Sekwetje Isaiah Mahlamba and Sekola Piet Matlaletsa are in court in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old white farm manager, Brendin Horner.

eNCA reporter, Govan Whittles spoke with one of the protestors who said he is there to stand against violence directed against farmers.

The man stated he could not explain why some of the anti-farm attack protestors arrived with firearms.

Several different groups of people are participating in protests in the area, for different reasons.

Afriforum, accompanied by some farming unions, have gathered 1km from the courthouse, whereas some anti-farm attack protestors have engaged with a group of EFF demonstrators nearer to the court building.

Stone-throwing, intimidation, and vandalism have been reported at the standoff in front of the Senekal Magistrate's Court.

Police Minister, Bheki Cele accompanied a strong police presence in the town to ensure violent unrest does not take place.

Police reportedly searched vehicles entering the town and confiscated some firearms from people participating in the protest.
