JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised a Special Investigating Unit investigation into allegations of corruption and maladministration at Telkom. 

The SIU is also authorised to recover any financial losses suffered by Telkom and the State through civil litigation.

The investigation will focus on possible maladministration in the sale of three companies as well as any prejudice to the state in that regard.

It will zoom in on transactions between 1 June 2006 and 25 January 2022.

Among the powers extended to the SIU is the ability to interrogate witnesses under oath and subpoena bank and cellphone records.
