JOHANNESBURG - The SIU has called for the arrest of former Health Department deputy director-general, Dr Anban Pillay.
Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said Pillay committed fraud by appointing Digital Vibes without due process.
"What stands out to us is the issue of people not following processes and it was very clear in the report that it was deliberate," Kganyago said.
"It did not even start where the deliberation was supposed to start with the [Proclamation No] R23 of 2020 but it started a few years before, when the minister [Zweli Mkhize] was still the minister at Cogta, they started with the missed contract there.
"The same culprits were there. This company was created there and you can see the deliberate way they fused themselves in, up until the Department of Health and the NHI project and ultimately the COVID-19... that for us is a big thing."
