Slap was self-defence against assassination attempt: EFF

PARLIAMENT - The EFF has released a statement alleging a member slapping a plainclothes police officer was thwarting an assassination attempt on their leader Julius Malema on Thursday.

The party said in a statement, "The security threat implicates elite members of the police, who are in collaboration with right-wing groups to take the life of the CIC, in an attempt to undermine the advances on the expropriation of land without compensation discourse, that will soon be law."

The statement further read that party members believed Malema to be under threat and reacted to the perceived threat.

Presiding officers in Parliament have condemned the alleged assault of Warrant Officer Johan Carstens.

Parliament says its still waiting for a full report on the matter before taking action.
