DURBAN - The Durban University of Technology has closed all of its five campuses.

This was triggered by the invasion of a large crowd of students and prospective students at the university's main campus.

They say they were invited by a social media post to register on campus.

The post was later confirmed by the university as fake.

Earlier on Wednesday, police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
