COVID-19 precautions: Parents satisfied independent schools are doing enough

JOHANNESBURG - Some parents at independent schools are satisfied that enough is being done to ensure the safety of their children.

But the poor communication from government has caused some confusion.

Despite the Basic Education Department suspending the resumption of classes until next week Monday, independent schools went ahead by reopening.

But it’s taking the cue from government, saying classes will continue until there's an instruction to do otherwise. 

The Curro Group issued a statement to parents on Sunday saying it would reopen schools for Grades 7 and 12.

It also apologised to parents for the uncertainty.

Parents said they would like to see clearer communication from government.

Government has given itself another week to prepare to reopen public schools.

But the level of uncertainty means there's no guarantee.
