SOWETO - Foreign shop-owners in Soweto are on edge on Thursday after three people were shot dead in White City and violence erupted in other areas.

Community members are protesting against foreign-owned shops, which they say sell expired and counterfeit goods.

At the same time, there's been widespread looting of those very same goods, with the protests spreading to neighbouring communities.

The clashes have sent many of the shop owners packing, fearing for their lives.

One foreign shop owner says he was beaten up, hit with stones by a large group of people.

Police will remain in and around the area.
