Soweto school sex abuse case begins

JOHANNESBURG - The trial of the Soweto scholar patroller accused of rape and sexual assault starts in the High Court in Johannesburg.

He's been in custody since October last year.

The 57-year-old suspect is facing three counts of rape and eleven of sexual assault.

More than 80 pupils at the AB Xuma Primary School in Orlando were allegedly sexually molested.

Angry parents questioned the vetting process in the appointment of the accused.

They complained that the now-axed principal didn't respond appropriately when they first approached her about the allegations of abuse.
