Sport shooters taking shots at new firearms bill

CAPE TOWN - Sport shooting could take a major hit if proposed changes to the firearms bill are passed.

The Firearms Control Amendment Bill 2021 was published in the gazette last month.

The police ministry says the amendments are key to a safer South Africa.

Changes to the 2015 Bill include prohibiting citizens from obtaining a gun license for self-defence.

The public has until 4 July to submit comments on the draft bill.
