JOHANNESBURG - Social grants are the main source of income for a quarter of homes in South Africa.
That’s according to Statistics South Africa's latest general household survey.
It shows that social grants remain a vital safety net, particularly in the poorest provinces.
The survey comes as the debate continues on whether the country should introduce a permanent basic income grant to curb poverty levels.
The special R350 COVID-19 Social Relief Distress grant is due to end in March next year.
