Tavern tragedy | Authorities clamp down on non-compliance

EAST LONDON - Officials from the Buffalo City Metro are conducting oversight visits at various taverns in Scenery Park.

The goal is to check who is flouting by-laws and if tavern owners possess the necessary liquor trading licenses.

The crackdown comes over a week after 21 teenagers tragically died at  Enyobeni tavern in East London.

The tavern is infamous for allegedly allowing teenagers into the establishment.

The visit to the area's taverns is in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Liquor Board and Safety authorities.

This visit is aimed at raising awareness, doing safety inspections and monitoring compliance.
