JOHANNESBURG - The taxi industry is now calling for a single-ticketing system.
The industry says commuters must be allowed to choose how they want to be transported.
Minibus taxis transport more than two-thirds of commuters in the country.
But it receives only one-percent of government's subsidy through the recapitalisation process.
The industry is now proposing a system that includes all public transport modes.
It says this will stimulate competition and be more efficient.
“The taxi industry will have to work very hard to ensure that we train our drivers adequately, we give proper vehicles that drive our people and we have drivers that respect the road,” said SA National Taxi Council president Philip Taaibosch.
