Tear gas, rubber bullets fired in Diepsloot protest

Residents are protesting against undocumented foreign nationals. They are accusing them of being behind a spate of murders.

DIEPSLOOT - Tear gas and rubber bullets have been fired in Diepsloot where violence erupted earlier on Thursday.

Residents are protesting against undocumented foreign nationals.

They are accusing them of being behind a spate of murders.

Protesters have been burning tires on the roads leading into and out of Diepsloot.

Service delivery problems have been raised as an additional problem by the protestors. 

Shop owners said they were warned beforehand that protests would be occurring on Thursday and shop owners closed.

No looting has been reported so far.
