Travellers bound for Europe scramble to leave SA

JOHANNESBURG - As countries reject passengers from SA after the detection of a new COVID-19 variant, passengers are scrambling to find flights to Europe.

Last minute mandatory PCR tests are being done and there are long queues and last minute schedule changes.

The tense situation has been exacerbated by the announcement that Emirates airline has suspended all flights to and from South Africa.

The last flights were expected to take off on Saturday evening.
