Truck drivers threaten to block national roads

A truck driver blockade is planned for the Easter weekend but the authorities have promised traffic will not be affected.

JOHANNESBURG - Truck drivers are planning to block some major national roads during the weekend.

That's what Cabinet's Justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster has told the transport minister.

Blade Nzimande has warned they will be arrested if they go ahead.

The planned protest is against the hiring of foreign truck drivers.

Transport department spokesman Ishmael Mnisi said numerous meetings were had about grievances.

"The cluster informed the minister on Wednesday that there is an intended protest because of the failed meeting with the employer.

"The association resolved that they will then take to the streets," said Mnisi.
