PORT ELIZABETH - Police are trying to locate the parents of a two-year-old girl who was beaten and dropped off at a Port Elizabeth clinic.
She has severe injuries to the head.
The nurses had to rush the little girl to the nearest hospital.
Elmarie van der Merwe has taken over 60 abandoned children into her home in the past 12 years and many of them have been neglected or abused.
Van der Merwe says it takes years and in some cases the children never get over the trauma of their past.
The National Adoption Coalition estimates 3, 500 babies are abandoned every year in South Africa.
