KWAZULU-NATAL - The University of KwaZulu-Natal has suspended all academic activity for the rest of the week.
Students have been protesting against having to pay 15 percent of what they owe the university for previous years' study.
They want historical debt scrapped altogether.
At the Pietermaritzburg campus, protesters threw stones and bottles at vehicles on a public road, and set fire to a guardhouse and kitchen.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday.
