The utility says the heavy rains have caused substantial damage to infrastructure.
The Durban Heights Water Treatment Works is unable to transfer enough water to reservoirs.
As a result, uMgeni Water says it is unable to meet the full demand of its consumers.
Technicians are doing repairs as speedily as possible and water tankers will be sent to affected areas.
