Unions engaging with govt on public sector wage increases

JOHANNESBURG - Unions are still engaging over the government's proposed 1.5 percent salary hike.

The state is also offering a cash gratuity of just under R1,000 for all employees.

Sadtu said it will take the proposal back to its members to find out how they feel about the offer.

Mugwena Maluleke, from the South African Democratic Teachers Union, said: "After the deadlock on 23 April, I can confirm, that on this Sunday the employer came back to us with a revised offer."
