CAPE TOWN – Patricia De Lille will resign as Cape Town mayor.
She will step down on 31 October after months of internal battles with her party, the Democratic Alliance.
The party has brought motions of no confidence against her, which she has successfully opposed.
The announcement was made in a joint media briefing with DA leader Mmusi Maimane.
De Lille was re-elected Cape Town mayor in 2016.
She will leave her post, but remain a member of the party.
The proposed open disciplinary hearings due to be held against her will fall away.
