GEORGE - The death toll in the Southern Cape fires has increased to eight.
Two women and six children burnt to death in Farleigh outside Knysna.
Some of the victims are related.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people have been evacuated overnight after fires engulfed parts of George and Karatara in the southern Cape.
At least seven people have died, among them two toddlers and a baby.
Local officials have made an appeal for blankets, mattresses and baby formula.
Hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to the area.
The fires broke out during extremely hot weather and the flames were fanned by strong winds.
Rain has fallen in the area overnight and cooler weather has been forecast.
Over the past week, firefighters have been battling a number of blazes which broke out during a recent heatwave.
