CAPE TOWN - Firefighters are battling runaway fires in parts of the Western Cape.

Strong winds are making it difficult for them to contain the fires.

Helicopter operations have been halted due to strong winds.

Betty's Bay, Karwyders-kraal and Franskraal were evacuated on Friday.

One person was admitted to hospital and several buildings were damaged.

Power in the region went out.
