UPDATE: Soweto scholar patroller acquitted on all charges

JOHANNESBURG - A scholar patroller accused of allegedly sexually abusing dozens of pupils at a Soweto school has been acquitted on all charges.

Johannes Molefe appeared in court on Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing pupils at the AB Xuma primary school.

The judge said the state failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The 58-year-old was on trial on three rape counts and 11 of sexual assault, which were all allegedly committed last year.

The complainants were aged between five and 13 at the time. 

The High Court sitting in Palm Ridge will deliver judgment.

On Monday the defense made an application for an acquittal.
