Vaal Dam levels drop, residents urged to use water sparingly

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng residents are being urged to use water sparingly following reports that Vaal Dam levels have dropped below 50 percent.

Rand Water spokesperson Eddy Singo said current dam levels are 49.64 percent.

"Dam levels are where they are supposed to be, you have to remember the Lesotho Highlands Water Project is underway for the next two months due to maintenance so the graph for the dam levels are expected to decline.

"The decline in dam levels is not a cause for concern," said Singo.

The Water and Sanitation Department cited high temperatures as the main reason for the decline in dam levels.

"South Africans are encouraged to actively save and conserve water as a way of life," said department spokesperson Sputnik Ratau.
