JOHANNESBURG - The community of Daveyton in Gauteng is alleged to have necklaced an alleged gang member accused of being part of a group of "nyaope boys" committing robberies in the area.
According to The Gauteng Department of Education, it is alleged that members of the community disrupted schooling when they dragged the 19-year-old suspected gang member to a school to point out a pupil who is alleged to be part of a gang.

Upon not finding the pupil, the gang member tried to escape but was accosted by the community in full view of learners.
The said gang is suspected of committing horrendous crimes such as robberies and murders in Daveyton.
The alleged gang member is currently recovering in hospital after sustaining burn wounds and the police are investigating the matter.
“We strongly condemn the disruption of schooling and urge the community to remain calm and allow the law to take its cause. Schools are centres of teaching and learning, they should be treated as such,” said Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
Lesufi and Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane are in the area to engage the community.
