JOHANNESBURG - The culture of vote-buying has seeped into the EFF.

EFF leader Julius Malema says people are trying to buy the support of delegates to the party's national conference, in a bid to secure election to leadership positions.

Malema said he has evidence.

The party will hold its second national conference in Soweto next month – where party leader Malema is expected to be re-elected.

Malema says some delegates have already submitted their bank account details to candidates contesting positions – and are waiting to be paid off to vote a certain way.

“Accounts have been provided to the people who are intending to send money so once money is sent we shall publish that. We know the people who are going to send money because we completely discourage the use of money.”

But he says the EFF leadership has a plan to expose those trying to corrupt their conference.

“It doesn’t matter whether they deposit cash at the ATM or whether they deposit inside, there are cameras there.”

He’s described a power battle for positions in the party as healthy competition.
