CAPE TOWN - With the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitals filling up, increasingly more health professionals are also becoming infected.
Emergency physician Dr Willem Jooste contracted the virus.
After isolating for two weeks, he couldn’t wait to get back on the job.
Jooste started working at New Somerset Hospital in March this year.
He had hardly settled in when the coronavirus pandemic spread to the Western Cape.
After attending to COVID-19 patients for a few weeks, Jooste himself tested positive.
The support from family, friends and colleagues is what Jooste says got him through and back on his feet again, ready to serve.
