JOHANNESBURG – Ebongweni Correctional Centre in Kokstad, KwaZulu-Natal is South Africa’s most secure prison.
It’s the country’s only super-maximum jail housing hardcore criminals.
eNCA’s Siphamandla Goge gained exclusive access to the facility.
Inmates are under strict surveillance in the high tech Ebongweni Ultra-Maximum Correctional Centre.
They spend 23-hours in solitary confinement.
The late Mozambican national, Ananias Mathe, known as the Houdini of C-Max tried to break out of Ebongweni.
Correctional Services and prison authorities claim the prison softens hardened criminals.
