MASERU - Newly appointed Lesotho Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro says fighting the coronavirus will be one of his key priorities.
Majoro also wants to revive the battered economy.
He has taken over from Tom Thabane, who retired after he was implicated in the murder of his estranged wife.
To date, Lesotho has only recorded two cases of COVID-19 but the new prime minister is not taking his eye off the fight.
Majoro also stressed that he wants to strengthen ties with South Africa.
“The virus is number one national priority it comes with a responsibility to deal and in fact prevent infections and the prevention methods carry long with negative impact,” Majoro said.
“We have had a lockdown for a while now, lockdown has imposed additional costs to the economy, firms had been closed and we are beginning to go back to work.
“Critical aspect is people are out of jobs and we are dealing with food parcels for now.”
