JOHANNESBURG – Former Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas will finally give evidence to prove his claim he was offered the position of finance minister by the Gupta family.

He will be the second witness at the judicial commission of inquiry into state capture on Friday.

It’s been over two years since Mcebisi Jonas claimed he was offered R600 000 in cash, and then R600-million to be given later if he accepted the job of finance minister.

Former president Jacob Zuma’s son, Duduzane, said no such thing took place.

But Jonas said he could no longer keep the year-old secret.

Jona’s statement prompted an investigation by then Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

Less than a year later she released her report titled, 'The State of Capture' which made startling findings.

She asked that law enforcement agencies examine the evidence she’d found to see whether there was a basis for criminal investigations and possible prosecutions.

Among revelations in this report was evidence that there was a corrupt relationship between the Gupta family and Duduzane Zuma.

Her report found that billions were fleeced from contracts at state-owned companies and that some ANC politicians were apparently offered jobs.
