JOHANNESBURG - The SAPS will release this year’s crime figures on Tuesday morning.
The 2017/2018 figures -- to be announced by Police Minister Bheki Cele -- will tell us more about the state of crime in the country and whether we are winning the fight against criminality or not.
According to the last figures for the 2016/2017 period, murder had increased by 1.8 percent while sexual offences and the number of reported rape cases had both decreased by over 4 percent.
Between April 2016 and the end of March last year, 52 people were killed per day in South Africa.
Most murders took place in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
