JOHANNESBURG - Government still has no regulatory framework in place to deal with how VIP private terminals at airports are established and run in South Africa.

The Oppenheimer family wants to operate a private terminal at OR Tambo International Airport.

However, Members of Parliament said the various government departments involved; first have to align the required legislation, before the company can operate.

Fireblade sublets it's terminal space from Denel, while Lanseria has an agreement with Public Works and now other big business players want to open their own VIP airport terminals too but there is no legislation in place in order for procedures to be standardized.

Home Affairs minister Siyabonga Cwele appeared before the portfolio committee in Parliament on Tuesday.

Cwele says while there is an agreement in place with the Department of Transport, it may take sometime before formal legislation is in place.
