JOHANNESBURG - The Patriotic Alliance attempted to shut down illegal foreign-owned shops in Eldorado Park.

The party has taken a controversial stance on undocumented immigrants, and its radical views gained traction during the local government elections.

The assault on foreign-owned shops however has been received with mixed feelings in the Johannesburg south community where the party holds sway.

A hard-line adopted in a community riddled with socio-economic problems.

This foreign-owned spaza shop in Eldorado Park was the first target of the Patriotic Alliance, which won the ward in a landslide.

Eldorado Park has a high unemployment rate and many residents buy from these shops because they are more affordable.

The Patriotic Alliance vowed to continue its operation.
