JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is concerned about the increase in COVID-19 infections and the high number of deaths associated with the virus in the Western Cape.

The president and the national Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize paid a visit to the province to inspect firsthand the province's state of readiness to deal with the pandemic.

With over 28,000 infections and more than 600 deaths so far, it will only get worse as winter sets in.

South Africa’s biggest COVID-19 field hospital is ready to receive its first patients from Monday.

Ramaphosa was given a tour at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

President Ramaphosa says government will give Western Cape R3 billion to effectively deal with the pandemic.
