JOHANNESBURG - The South African Federation of Trade Unions is questioning government for not acting against what it calls a failing Eskom board and executives.

The union's Secretary-General Zwelinzima Vavi says the consistent rolling blackouts are costing the country's already stagnant economy.

"When we speak about the economy that it is not just on stagnation but an economy that is being driven out by Eskom and by a government that refuses to take action against an obviously failing executive and board of Eskom," he said.

Meanwhile, South Africans will be in the dark for most of this week.

Eskom has announced more daily power cuts.

The power utility said it would implement stage 2 blackouts from 5pm until 10pm every day this week.
