JOHANNESBURG - Schools will be closed on Wednesday following the rise of coronavirus cases in South Africa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced as he addressed the nation on Sunday.
There are currently 61 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa.
“Schools will be closed from Wednesday, 18 March, and will remain closed until after the Easter weekend. To compensate, the mid-year school holidays will be shortened by a week,” said Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa added that government expects an increase in coronaviruses cases.
Meanwhile, a travel ban has been imposed on high-risk countries.
