CAPE TOWN - The Standing Committee on Public Accounts will hear from an inter-ministerial Task Team on defaulting municipalities that owe Eskom billions, with Soweto the prime culprit.
About ten municipalities have to answer to the power utility.
Soweto owes Eskom a whopping R15-billion – an amount equal to the combined debt of almost 60 other municipalities.

Altogether the remaining municipalities owe Eskom around R16-billion and the power utility says the figure keeps rising.
The utility announced it is considering job cuts to bring its costs under control.
Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe has previously said that non-payment of bills is almost single-handedly crippling the parastatal.
