JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's alcohol industry, is the one sector that has remained recession proof. 

In fact, some people say unemployment and the state of the economy is driving them to drink. 

The rate of unemployment in South Africa is fast heading towards the 30-percent mark.

Youth unemployment is currently at 52.8 percent,  threatening the country's future, if not reversed.

According to Nadesan, so many people drink alcohol, because it's a more socially acceptable drug.

Government was in the process of introducing legislation to ban alcohol advertising. 

The liquor Amendment bill would see alcohol advertising on radio and television banned between 6am to 10pm and the drinking age limit raised from 18 to 21-years but for now, the bill has been put on ice.
