HARARE -  The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa had a clean sweep in by-elections in March.

This resulted in the party having a majority in the Harare City Council.

The Local Government Minister July Moyo who belongs to ruling Zanu PF central government suspended substantive Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume accusing him of having crossed the floor to join the opposition CCC.

The council then elected a new acting mayor Enoch Mupamaonde whom the local government tried to kick out as well.

The suspended mayor says the government is expelling mayors from his CCC party because they have corrupt deals.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently said that the opposition has failed to run urban councils.

Yet CCC leader Nelson Chamisa dismissed this saying Zanu PF is behind all of the country's economic problems.
